A female teacher is standing alone in a long hallway of a school, the echo of ringing chimes telling us her lesson is about to start. Turning back slowly after giving us a single glance, she opens the door of the classroom, and we walk in together. In the room, there is a group of students, looking at us silently. They seem to be bored, feeling tired and paying little attention to what’ s going to happen. The girls look so natural, each tidily dressed in her uniform. Beautiful yet archly implying something. The one who is reading a book is aware of our approach; she turns her face gently to give us a smile. Then suddenly, we find that the book she is reading hints at the truth behind the entire space... “Did you notice that there was a boy in the room ?”
To complete all the tasks while the camera is on sounds simple, but in reality it was challenging. To achieve this uncut time-lapse, we searched for actual high-school students, conducted a couple of make-up tests and 4 test shootings to simulate the detailed positions of the models and the time we could spare on make-up per model. But in fact, the blueprint of the production was unclear until the final day of shooting. Utilizing a motion-control camera to trace the entire transformation for 7 hours with no interruptions allowed was a huge burden to the hair and makeup team as well as models. We had to revise the process many times as the budget was tight and relatively small for a short film of this length. However, we finally came together and made it happen.
