The film tells the story of a solo female traveler's memories of the time she spent in Paris. Her memories are seen through an animated world set entirely on a Zoetrope. In this animated world, we see her travel away from the touristy Eiffel Tower areas, and with suggestions from her local host, she discovers a different side to Paris. One that’s filled with locals and local favourite hideaways. It’s in this Paris, she discovers a hidden flea market, a charming vintage carousel filled with local kids and families, she makes her way to a secret underground bar where she meets locals and ends up spending a typical Parisian evening before ending the night with supper at a neighbourhood café. The film showcases the experiences a traveler can have when they stay in local neighbourhoods with Airbnb.
The film was set entirely a Zoetrope. Built from the ground up, within 3 weeks, by 16 specialty craftsmen and women, the zoetrope was a massive undertaking. Measuring 3.8 meters in diameter, 11.9 meters in circumference and 1.5 meters in height, the 3D zoetrope was a first-of-its-kind build with an enormous 11,256 moving parts which took over 2340 hours to assemble. The most complicated build was the carousel layer, with 111 parts making up each carousel and 36 carousels making up the entire layer. 1680 figurines were 3D printed to create fluid motion with the largest figurine measuring 6cm and the smallest – a 3mm dog near the carousel. Each character, table, chair, even the little stuffed bear in the flea market was hand painted with immaculate attention to detail, taking the crew 648 hours to paint. We wanted to create a world that’s whimsical but also feels real.
