Brief Explanation

This film follows, from birth, the life of a young girl, through until she graduates from University. It documents all the milestones as well as the mundane, from birthday's and families celebrations, to achievements at school and hanging out with friends. All the while, the VO describes how much money the average child costs a family in Australia. The pictures tell us the truth though - that they are so much more than just money.

A casting call was put out across Sydney for a young girl aged between 20 - 25 who knew her life had been documented. 75 girls came in for the original casting. From here, the director created a shortlist of 14. This was then reduced to 11 girls. 10 of those girls then submitted their home footage which was researched, sorted & edited before being presented. From here, 1 girl was cast and the edit was finessed. The young girl's dad was an avid amateur cameraman and the majority of the footage used in the film was document by him personally, all of the footage was home footage.
