Brief Explanation

‘Wild Horse Chase’ tells the story of little girl who is determined to replace her broken pink toy horse. Her dad goes along with her solution to the problem, driving her to ‘Ranch of the Rainbow’, a place where coloured horses are bred. There, she spots the ultimate replacement - a spirited pink horse. With the help of the head of the ranch, they pursue and corner it. The girl calms the flighty horse, forming the ultimate bond. Seeing this, the girl’s younger brother deliberately snaps the head off his toy dinosaur. The ad concludes with a roaring T-Rex chasing the CR-V down the road.

Execution

In the vein of iconic Hollywood western spectacles, the spot demanded the scale and grandeur similar to what’s found in the open plains of places like Montana and Dakota. A western type tale with a vivid difference, the action needed to feel authentic and real despite the surreal twist of a coloured horse ranch. Filmed over five days in the mountains of Queenstown New Zealand, the shoot involved everything form helicopter passes, to the co-ordination of over 20 horses. Key to bringing story to life was the performance of the young girl. Her emotional trajectory through the spot was vital to bringing the viewer along for the ride.
