Brief Explanation

Monash University created the Sip Safe wristband to empower young people to test if their drink has been spiked. The wearer simply puts a drop of their drink onto the wristband and in a short amount of time the wristband changes colour if it has been exposed to ketamine or GHB – two common drink spiking drugs. By using the design of wristbands seen at festivals and youth events we embedded our message into the environment of our audience. The wristbands were distributed to school leavers at the week-long national end of exams party, we also distributed wristbands on university campuses and in known university bars, clubs and hang outs.

Execution

The Sip Safe wristband is equal parts education, utility and deterrent. The ability to test a drink provides the freedom to manage risk for the wearer. While wearing the Sip Safe wristband also provides a visual deterrent to any would be drink spiker. It is interactive and protective at the same time.
