Brief Explanation

The opening sequence shows a woman speaking to her mother over the phone. This follows flashbacks of mother-daughter relationship as she grows from a young schoolgirl into a young adult, and as a married woman. They share tender, everyday scenes, mostly around the dinner table and with noticeably more fanfare at annual Reunion Dinner festive celebrations. The daughter, now a married woman, realises that the annual traditions she had with her mother would change, as she had to now be with her husband's family. Returning to present-day, the daughter shares her regret and disappointment with her mother on the phone, realising that her mother would be dining alone. She shares her disappointment with her husband. Her mother is seen cooking alone on the eve of Chinese New Year, back towards the viewers. In walks in the daughter and her in-laws, who chose to spend Reunion Dinner together.
