An elderly woman wakes up in her bedroom. She walks through her house, looking around, seemingly confused. Finally, she spots her husband dozing off on the front porch. She wakes him up, asking why the Chinese New Year decorations aren’t up for that evening’s reunion dinner. Her husband reassures her that he’ll take care of everything. He calls up their adult children – none of whom seem to be planning to come home – and decorates the house. Their next-door neighbour asks the husband what he’s doing. The husband admits that his wife woke up that morning thinking it was Chinese New Year. We then see a sequence of the children returning home and the family having their Chinese New Year reunion dinner together. A shot of a calendar reveals that it’s actually June 8 – well after Chinese New Year, which this year took place in February.
