Sexual abuse is a delicate issue and to reach out to the survivors means to understand their fear and pain. We've spoken to few women and most of them felt they were double victims, they suffered the abuse, the unfair justice, and the social perceptions. While the perpetrators are running free, they are stuck in the moment of trauma. To encourage them, we created a film that explores the devastating emotional legacy suffered by survivors. Locked into a mental prison of fear and shame, their lives are destroyed while their silence allows the perpetrators to go free. The film aims to overcome women's doubts about justice and law enforcement in Thailand and raise their voices to ensure that it is the culprits, not their victims, who are imprisoned.
Released on November 25th, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on Facebook.
The film generated conversations in the social media and TIJ Speak Up Speak Out for Youth Program received more participants this year compared to previous year.
3 out of 5 sexual abuse victims are below 21 years old. Their tender age causes them to choose to remain silent. However, although they go for a shut down in the real life, they are still active in social media. Our strategy is to create a film featuring the famous teen actress that is famous amongst the teenagers and launch the film on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Our actress then shared the film on her social media platform and we follow with a workshop for teens to make the next film to help the survivors to speak up and others to speak out.
