The Campaign

With "mashup" in mind, we composed four original songs. Then, we developed an interactive mashup player on the Internet for users to mix and hear tracks just by pressing buttons, and enjoy mashup animations as the music video. 15 mashup patterns are possible.

Creative Execution

This HTML website was developed using WebGL. The development period was approximately two months. We started by constructing the structure of the music and performing technical verifications. Next, we composed songs and created storyboards for the music videos according to the structure of the music. Then, we dissected the elements into design and CG, and incorporated these parts into the website. To enable and optimize this audio and visual experience on the smartphone, we created low-poly 3D models, the minimum loop animations, and the fewest number of objects. In order to actualize this piece on WebGL, we used CG softwares such as Cinema4D to sync with 2D components, and use JSON format to render 3D data.

MASHUP MUSIC PLAYER was featured on over 100 online news platforms. GIZMODO JAPAN website selected it for "The Best Music of 2016" ranking. Through this new way of playing with music, we succeeded in increasing the fan base of 5572320.

To broaden the accessibility of MASHUP MUSIC PLAYER, rather than an app, we launched it as a website for all to experience immediately. Furthermore, considering that the target users were people in their teens and twenties, we developed a smartphone-centric experience. We incorporated gimmicks where users could enjoy visual changes in the music video by tilting their devices or tapping on the screen.
