The Campaign

By using 3D scanning and printing, we recreated the famous pose using seven couples from around Sydney, who bared all in the name of art. The project set out to investigate the power of nudity as a subject and the way the naked form forces us to re-evaluate our own bodies. The couples who participated reflected different ages, ethnicities, genders and sexualities - giving the classic sculptural work a contemporary edge.

Creative Execution

The installation ran in the Art Gallery of New South Wales - alongside the main exhibition. To create visitation to the exhibition itself, it was visible not just to paying guests of the but also the greater public. Located on a 16ft wall facing an 800ft foyer, it included a flat screen TV running a piece of video art, a shelf to house 7 custom 3D printed statues and was messaged with wall decals.

The art film and documentary were featured at The Art Gallery of NSW - along with the 3D printed sculptures. The films were circulated via a special feature in The Guardian online culture section - and an accompanying website also featured an opportunity for adventurous couples to nominate themselves to become the eighth couple to be scanned and printed for exhibition.

Art Exhibition

To discover the relevance of the nude today we invited 7 real couples to pose naked, recreating Rodin's The Kiss. Using 3D scanning we captured their unique version and 3D printed them. The process was documented on film, features online by The Guardian. Part video artwork, part sculptural installation we created a gallery experience encouraging the public to think about their attitudes towards nudity. Couples could nominate themselves to be the 8th sculpture via an online competition.
