There’s nothing as magical as a family holiday. It doesn’t matter where you go, or for how long you’re staying there. It’s about the moments you share together. It can be about a father’s pride at a daughter’s triumph, or as simple as a shoulder ride back from the shop. This is the story of the beauty to be found between moments.
Authenticity was the focus on the Family Holiday film, which was tricky as we only had half a day to shoot the entire film. We were adamant about casting a real deaf girl who loved the ocean, and were so fortunate to have found her. She had never acted before, but brought a tremendous energy to set. She was amazing at lip reading and could take direction as long as the director was in her line of sight, which was something he had to remember as he kept the set moving fast to chase the beautiful morning light. We really wanted the family moments to feel un-staged and unscripted to capture the authenticity of a real family holiday, which meant the kids were out of control for a number of scenes - which we loved. We just kept rolling and found our framed moments in amongst the chaos.
