The film is about a Rudaali (Professional mourner) and her young entourage. It opens with her talking about being called to funerals. We see her crying inconsolably at one, while the group remains silent. When she tries to get them to join, they end up crying comically, leaving the client furious. She then begins to reminisce her glorious days of youth, which evokes determination to train her current troop. She even fakes her own death. And just as they start crying genuinely, she wakes up and instructs them to cry the same way. But at the next funeral, they hum a Bollywood song instead and fail miserably. As she sits dejected, the group owns up. They reveal the cause of being happy – listening to Radio Mirchi. And when they make her listen too, she gets filled with joy. The voice over says, ‘Radio Mirchi listeners are always happy.’
