Working with a tight budget, it was impossible to package the music CD in a newly printed book. Hence, the objective is to find a cost-effective solution to make the design and packaging different and memorable. Also, in this time and age where environmental consciousness is important, the band wanted an impactful and eco-friendly end product at the same.
A local band was in search for an interesting and unique design for its fifth but its very first instrumental album. Musically, the band believes in moving forward and experimenting. Hence, its first instrumental marked a milestone in the band’s journey. With that, the album design and packaging also needed to bring out the essence of the album title “Soundtrack for a book” and rouse the people in the music scene who are always in search for the new and different, in music and artistry.
It’s a well known fact that the band has been driving the underground music scene in Singapore for some time now and is arguably the granddaddy of the indie scene. Hence, by packing the album into used books of different genres, it packs the element of grunge into the idea while instilling the element of eco friendliness with the use of old and discarded. Most importantly, it brings out the idea of reading a book while listening to a soundtrack. The bolt and nut drilled through the book also makes a sculptural statement. And no two books are alike, making every album a very unique one.
When the music CD was launched, it was the talk of the town in the local music scene, attracting a lot of interest on blogs as well as features on the local newspapers. More than half the albums were sold in the first month. International orders for the album were also well received, from as far as Canada, New York, London and Australia.
