Our aim was to engage current and potential donors, and make them believe in the honesty of Project Nanhi Kali's efforts. The charity's mainstream advertising and direct mailers were yielding little to no results. We therefore decided to use the strength of publishing to craft heartfelt stories. Stories based in reality, that would truly strike a chord with donors. That's how The Storybooks for Change - a series of beautifully illustrated story books inspired by real lives of girls Project Nanhi Kali had helped - were born. From Sunitha - a young girl saved from a life on the streets, to Swati - a budding artist rescued from child marriage, each book told the story of a girl's everyday struggle to get educated. It ended with the message that the reader can help keep the protagonist and thousands others like her in school by donating to Project Nanhi Kali.
