[Let’s give personality, family and history to the character!] The idea of this film was to bring the character, Beadal Jr. (which in Korean means ‘delivery’) to life. The story of Baedal Jr. who developed a new delivery service after his family was created as a stop motion film. ‘Live to eat great food, anywhere you’d like’ This had been the motto of Beadal family for long. Baedal Jr. who inherited his family business on delivery food thought something was missing from their service. His parents and grandparents created several delivery services but still, foods that were non-deliverable existed. Baedal Jr. decided to bring restaurant foods such as lobsters and steaks back home and finally, he united all the great restaurants available through the app <Baedal Minjok>- The nation of delivery.
The direction was made to represent the unrefined, but challengeable and passionate character of a start-up company. So new attempts on directing were made on this film. ‘Baedal Jr.’ was already made with real soap and appeared in various marketing, however expressing the soap texture on screen was challenging. We decided to create a stop motion film that required a lot of effort since 3D works with Computer Graphics had limits on expressing the texture. Also, the stop motion technique was the best choice to make the film to look unrefined but friendly. The work was moving the miniature, which was made as a miniature with the 1/10 of the soap doll, cut by cut. Filming just 3 cuts took a whole day.
