Brief Explanation

[Adventure of Baedal Minjok] The idea of this film was to bring the character, Beadal Jr. (which in Korean means ‘delivery’) to life. We first launched a prequel that tells us foods even with different nationality and backgrounds can all be part of our nation, and made each menu as an independent piece. This stop motion film ‘BURRITO/ RICE NOODLE/ BLUE LEMONADE’ is the independent pieces of Adventure of Baedal Minjok- Delivery of the restaurant food. Baedal Jr. dressed in traditional Mexican costumes is leaning on a desert-looking burrito and plays a guitar. Baedal Jr. then appears wearing Vietnamese conical hat. His boat is moving on the rice noodle bowl. Next is the relaxed Baedal Jr. floating on the blue lemonade with his air mattress. These short films each ends with the message ‘Burritos /rice noodles/ Blue lemonades have now joined <Baedal Minjok>, The Nation of Home Delivery.’

Execution

The direction was made to represent the unrefined, but challengeable and passionate character of a start-up company. So new attempts on directing were made on this film. ‘Baedal Jr.’ was already made with real soap and appeared in various marketing, however expressing the soap texture on screen was challenging. We decided to create a stop motion film that required a lot of effort since 3D works with Computer Graphics had limits on expressing the texture. Also, the stop motion technique was the best choice to make the film to look unrefined but friendly. The work was moving the miniature, which was made as a miniature with the 1/10 of the soap doll, cut by cut. Filming just 3 cuts took a whole day.
