Brief Explanation

The Uncaged are an eclectic group of young people from fields as diverse as dance, technology, fashion, art and food, who are shaping the future. A classically trained professional violinist, Mei Segev uses her musical talents to not only entertain, but contribute to charitable causes, engaging with her art not just from a performative aspect but also as a force for good. Foshan-born artist Hua Tunan runs an independent studio and is impacting the art world by merging traditional Chinese art practices with Western graffiti styles. Chef and restaurateur, Willin Low, is preserving traditional Singaporean hawker food using it as his inspiration to create 'Mod-Sin' cuisine, blending culinary heritage with modern techniques. CEO of Open Bionics, Joel Gibbard, is pioneering the development of affordable bionic prosthetics, challenging the issue of expensive robotic options, using technology such as 3D printing to provide bionic limbs to people with no access to prosthesis.

A large part of the storytelling process is developed in the edit suite. Our approach for this particular project was to bring a contemporary, editorial feeling to traditional filmmaking. We wanted to create a dynamic edit using pace variations, pushing and pulling the rhythm of the footage, using sound design to emphasise specific cuts. We liked the idea of experimenting with particular shots to hold our audience in suspense, before cutting to frenetic fast-paced edit sequences. The variation in the edit, in a symbiosis with the sound design, allowed us to creatively drive home the message that anybody can be a somebody. We all have a tiger inside. We are really proud of where we've landed with this beautiful film.
