This epic odyssey began in ancient times and ends today. The best sticky rice makes the best Zongzi, so-called 'sticky rice dumplings.' This is a story about an arduous journey that never saw the return of our 605 part-grain-part-man community. The Grainmen were brought to life with our director's wicked sense of ingenuity, albeit within an emotional parting lies their destiny pervaded with hopelessness and uncertainties.
To convey the precious source of glutinous rice grain and the presence of apocalyptic dread in the copywriting, director not only collaborated with a matte painter to conceive a magical universe that spanned a multitude of dimensions, he also created a ritualistic dance sequence for the film. All performers had to be in such a trance that they dance on command, any shoddy performance was rumoured to be severely punished. Every detail of each Grainmen was carefully calculated. From the styling to the casting, the earthy flavour and palatability of each grain was transpired through each set of costume and actor. The headgears were specially designed by our multi-talented director so that the audience can identify and reminisce on the grain characters long after they watch the film. Worn with a loincloth and black sandals, not forgetting those green sacks, life should be as absurd as it can be.
