The story of New Zealand infamous pirate radio station, Radio Hauraki is one of determination. Passion. Rebellion. Of catastrophe, loss, and ultimate triumph, set against a backdrop of beer, cigarettes, and coffee. But underneath all that excitement and bravado is a touching and inspiring connection shared between a father and son. This Steinlager spot is a toast from international DJ superstar Zane Lowe to the guy who made it all possible and fought for New Zealanders right to uncensored music and free speech, his dad, Derek. And as intimate and humbling as the sentiment may be, we honour Derek Lowe with a blockbuster recreation that captures the insanity of his pioneering days aboard the pirate radio station, Radio Hauraki, in a moment of peril.
