The video shows Santa taking calls from New Zealand children however the Kiwi accent means many requests get lost in translation. A confused Santa is shown trying to fulfil a range of unusual gift requests from biscuitballs (basketballs) and puggy banks (piggy banks) to bug screen TVs (big screen TVs) and book of magic trucks (tricks). Santa's helpers - Air New Zealand's Cabin Crew - then come to the big man's aid providing some much - needed translation skills.
Shot in the old Auckland Railway Station’s Ladies Waiting Room, we had two weeks to create a Santa’s workshop. It’s a setting everyone has seen hundreds of times before, but this one needed to feel unique to the iconic Air New Zealand brand and like it could exist in 2017. We designed and built the Christmas toys in a wildly short turnaround from scratch. They were such success and managed to speak to Air New Zealand so effectively that they were created as real toys that went out to the public as a Christmas giveaway until the end of January, 2018.
