“LIVE for YOU” was a transcendent VR experience that surrounded participants with advanced 360° spatial sound and images recorded from a live event. Each viewer could enjoy the dynamic performance as the sole spectator from a perspective close enough to see the artist's breathing, sweating and vein pulsing. An astonishing surround effect was made possible by VR camera equipment with 4K film resolution. Live VR recording is often encumbered by the presence of a cameraman who may appear in the field of vision. But our cameras were operated through motion control to allow recording of more people in all directions. We also utilized YouTube spatial audio technology (Android smartphones only) that enables sound to be heard from the direction corresponding to the angle of view.
The VR experience, with transcendent surround effects, was provided for 10 days. Visitors to our venue enjoyed the exciting VR experience from special VR chairs, which could rotate 360°, while wearing headphones and viewing a smartphone with attached cardboard headset.
The venue was full every day and attracted 150% of our estimated number of visitors, coverage by 226 media outlets (including TV), 320,000 YouTube views, and 6,000 tweets reaching 7,450 000 accounts.
Our mission was to create a brand-new music experience through advanced technology. The experience allowed anyone to walk around freely on a virtual stage and enjoy every bit of a favorite music artist's performance from close up. Moreover, each user experienced the performance as the sole spectator. It was an enriched music experience that fulfilled the dreams and fantasies of music lovers.
2016 is said to be Year One of virtual reality, since many companies suddenly started selling general consumer-oriented VR devices such as the PlayStation VR. However, VR devices remain quite expensive (approx. \80,000) and relatively few people have actually experienced them. Isn’t there some way to make VR devices available to everyone? The answer is yes, via nearly ubiquitous smartphones. Simply by using inexpensive cardboard and YouTube, any smartphone can be transformed into an excellent VR device. At our venue, an extremely rich VR experience was provided by using the latest smartphone models compatible with 4K resolution.
