Brief Explanation

The category norm is to show physicians in lab coats with data. We break this convention with cinematically beautiful films that feel more like short stories. Two films (A Husband’s Love and A Wife’s Dream) feature the same doctor treating elderly patients in his neighborhood. The films show the patients achieving an important goal while the cinematography highlights ordinary life. This juxtaposition shows why proper treatment is important to every individual. The use of 16mm film creates a sense of realism and ordinary life. We used significant items such as flowers and Japanese sweets at the beginning and end of each film to give a sense of a complete story. Also, sound is an essential factor in the experience with intentional moments of silence to allow the noises of life to be heard. These create a sense of intimacy, connection an understanding between the film and the audience.
