Being photographed or seeing a photograph of oneself is a typical moment when women are often displeased with their own appearance. But seen by others, that same photo might be an attractive image, alive with character and personality. With this idea in mind, we took photos of mothers and daughters and displayed them in an exhibit space. We then asked the mother and daughter pairs to view and talk about the photos. A daughter knows her mother’s attractive points better than anyone. By helping daughters convey their honest feelings, we hoped to encourage mothers to reinterpret their own real beauty. Our film seeks to document the mothers’ initial negative reactions when they first see their own photos and their changing expressions and impressions as each mother looks at and talks about the photos together with her daughter.
