Brief Explanation
In Australia, when innocent people get ripped off they turn to trashy current affairs shows for justice. These tabloid shows are the people’s champions, sticking up for the underdogs and chasing down the ‘shonky’ bad guys. In Australian slang, ‘shonky’ is used to describe someone who is dishonest and rips people off. This TV genre is infamous in Australia for its tabloid techniques: melodramatic music, over- the-top graphics and judgmental reporters. When RaboDirect bank discovered Australians were losing billions in potential interest by keeping their savings in low interest accounts, we released this current affairs show to get people to stop ripping themselves off and switch their savings to RaboDirect.
