The Brief

e-Basics which stands for Entrepreneurship Basics, is a starter toolkit which contains modular, self paced learning on the fundamentals of entrepreneurship, imparted in an easy to use and learn format. The course aims to develop in the participants a clear understanding regarding all the key fundamental concepts associated with initiating, developing and running an enterprise. The E-Basics course which is a 20 hour online/CD based, self paced training, is meant for SMEs as well as youth and women who have a minimum secondary school level educational qualification, basic digital literacy skills as well as a passion for exploring the idea of setting up an enterprise of their own. The course is also beneficial for young entrepreneurs who have already started their business and are now looking at growing the same by learning some tools that can be applied in their day to day business operations. The approach was to develop a globally usable format that is geo agnostic and will lend well to localization. The technology product has public release and has been translated across 4 languages with extensive global usage.

1. The technology solution that was devised was a mix of open software, instructional design, activity cards, case studies to create this entrepreneur starter toolkit. 2. The uniqueness / innovativeness of this entry lies in the fact that – this is one –of- a- kind self paced guide that helps you start a business as a first time entrepreneur. 3. The CD and online outputs are being used across the globe, across geographies and across languages by a diverse set of people who have gone ahead to start their businesses. The e-Basics program is designed for usage by young adults and first time entrepreneurs. As such the course delivers the training in a fun and interactive manner interspersed with examples, case studies and other interesting and interactive activities focussing on entrepreneurship and provides a very structured step by step process. In the course of this learning, participants continuously develop and strengthen their own business idea so that at the end of the training they may have with them a well thought out business idea and plan for their own enterprise, as well as a clear understanding regarding all the fundamentals of setting up and running a venture of their own. The salient highlight of e-Basics was in sketching the "journey of entrepreneurship" in a very engaging and simple fashion. The content was written using simple common day words, numerous real life examples were exhaustively used across the course, short steps were incorporated to make it easy and not bookish, varied activities were constructed to make the course come to life, pop quizzes were build in to make it interactive and fun…overall creating a course that was one in a kind, scalable and impactful. The technology evaluation and selection was on the below parameters - 1) Ease of rollout and scale 2) Simple in usage worldwide 3) Existing tech in emerging geos The technology used is - HTML, XML, Flash with video production. The program is owned by the client and managed exclusively by Red Baron across the world. The next step in the development cycle is making a tablet and / or mobile version for global use.

The outcome was to create more youth entrpreneurs globally, using the e-Basics architecture. The program was successfully piloted in APAC and now has been translated for local usage in China, Spain, Malaysia and now Indonesia in underway. The course has seen significant impact in creating and crafting the "entrepreneur journey". Over 500 K youth have used the course in face to face and other versions. The extensive usage across the world has shown the success of the program with more geos / countries asking for localizations for in country usage.
