Brief Explanation

The film features The Wall Street Journal's Asia Edition Asia News editor, Features, Patrick Barta, sharing one of his most memorable stories he had covered. The scene opens with Patrick and a photographer following a news story outside on the street under the rain. Then cuts to a study room where Patrick tells his experience of covering the 2011 Japanese Tsunami. As he describes the experience, the film shows Patrick's personal recordings of the disaster in various parts of the town he stayed, Rikuzentakata. The camera follows a woman walking next to a wall of wreckage and cuts to an image of a van flipped upside down in front of destroyed buildings, then cuts to a massive land of destroyed parts of buildings and cars. The scene cuts back to the study where Patrick is typing away on his laptop and describing the intensity of that experience and witnessing the resilience of the Japanese people. More scenes of the destroyed town and its people appear but this time showing their faces with a sign of hope. The scene fades. The Wall Street Journal logo appears. "Be a reader. Be in the lead" come on screen in sync with background music.
