Brief Explanation

part in this program. Our challenge was to find ways for them to participate and to raise awareness of the program. We developed a mobile app to enable anybody anywhere to take part in the TABLE FOR TWO program. It works as below; As users download Table for Two app, they take the picture of their meal and upload it. Revolutionary technology developed by Tokyo University, automatically calculate and analyze the calories of the meal from the image. As the users eat and report that they ate low calorie healthy food, one Japanese yen per meal from the sponsored companies will be forwarded to TABLE FOR TWO as donation. Therefore there is no burden on the users. This donation will be used to provide school lunches to Africa which at the same time increases calories in Africa. The number of downloads reached 30,000 six months after the release from App Store. One of the challenges of diet-control applications is how to get the users to keep using them. In this case, the social contribution proved to be an effective motivator for users. In the meantime, the app was introduced in TV programs, newspapers, magazines, radio and web news and created a big buzz. The number of meals provided in Africa reached 1800 (17 July, 2012) and a new channel for charity donation was created. Users are reminded not only of TABLE FOR TWO at every meal but also of the children in Africa as well as the global issues of hunger and poverty. The app is a first step toward building a platform for connecting the general public with TABLE FOR TWO.
