Hong Kong is one of the busiest, most populous and modern cities in the world. To help visitors fully enjoy the city and navigate it's hidden gems, McCann Erickson and XS2TheWorld developed an Augmented Reality application for Cathay Pacific and The Hong Kong Tourism Board. Visitors use their phone camera as a viewer, and the app overlays points of interest on the real-world views on screen. These points of interest cover cultural and historical sites, transport routes, restaurants, and markets, to name a few. Each marker can be tapped for more detailed information. The application is a constantly updated, round-the-clock digitaltravel guide, which can also be used offline to avoid roaming charges. It is available for iPhone and Android in three languages. The application has been downloaded over 100,000 times, received 4+ stars from users, and has been promoted by international titles from BBC Travel to the French newspaper le Figaro, and being featured in Cannes Lions 2012 conference by Kimberly Kadlec, the vice-president of Johnson & Johnson.
