Brief Explanation

Around 19 storms enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility in a typical year causing flooding, landslides, property damage and loss of lives. September 2011 was when the country was hit by Typhoon Nesat causing USD333M in damages, affecting a total of 64,431 people in 9 provinces in Luzon. This caused families to still suffer from the effects of the typhoon even during the Christmas season. Like most girls her age, Jillian excitedly wakes up on Christmas morning expecting to open lots of gifts. To her surprise, she only finds one gift for her under the Christmas tree. Her mother notices her disappointment and reminds her about the value of sharing one’s blessings. With renewed spirit she is now determined to do her part in preparing the Christmas feast. We then discover that Jillian’s family, who themselves were affected by the flood caused by the typhoon, chose to share with the community what little they had. Instead of a lavish Christmas celebration, they devoted their resources to prepare a Christmas feast which even their neighbors, fellow flood victims, can partake of.
