Constructed for Carlton Draught outside the MCG (Australia’s most famous sporting venue). Magnatron was a ten-story high, 40-ton version of the ‘skill tester’ game (often found in pubs) with identical controls, a giant electromagnet and a hundred thousand dollars worth of prizes. 14 Carlton Draught drinkers operated it in front of a live TV audience of 3.4 million on the day of the AFL Grand Final (Australia’s Super bowl). Over a 100,000 saw it on their way to the game. Magnatron was Australia’s biggest piece of outdoor advertising. Illuminated at night it was visible from the city centre.
