China's quarantine measures is recognised as one the strictest in the world. Incoming travelers have to serve up to 4 weeks of quarantine at designated hotels, even if you are a local Chinese citizen traveling back to China. In these quarantine hotels, travelers are not allowed to have any form of physical interactions and food deliveries. Quarantined travelers are stuck with the quarantine hotel's menu for 4 weeks - and there are reports of unsatisfying quarantine meals and depression from quarantined travelers. We wanted to motivate and reward them with tasty meals when they complete their quarantine period, so we came up with Quarantainment.
Quarantainment, the world's first outdoor games for quarantined travelers. A collaborative idea with restaurants, we created a series of live-action stunt games to entertain quarantined travelers. An on-ground team armed with props and signages attract their attention to play. GUESS THE FOOD: A game master invites you to guess the right words (via WeChat) to win free meals. THE SUSHI TRAIN: We created umbrellas with sushi decorations on each umbrella; like a sushi conveyor belt. The Sushi Train went around the quarantine hotel, and is 'caught' when QR code is scanned. QR BALLOONS: Floating ballons with QR codes with free meals if you can scan them! OODLES NOODLES: Moving noodles challenged people to scan the QR code. TIC-TAC-TOE IN THE DARK: Scan and join a WeChat group to compete with another quarantined traveler! A physical board was created to plot their moves.
