Cultural / Context information for the jury

Filipinos have always been known to be an emotional, highly social people. However, the product was launching in the Philippines amid the world’s longest lockdown. With a market numbed by the pandemic, how does a brand foster real connection with its Filipino audience? Around that same time, city governments and business sectors were seeing the urgent need for added parks and open spaces more than ever – a challenge given the population density. And so, this gave the brand the perfect opportunity to build a meaningful space for the city and its community.

Please outline the innovative elements of the work

This immersive audio-sensory park answers a new need brought about by the pandemic: reconnection that transcends social distancing and lack of physical contact. Architects worked closely with sound engineers and designers to create a park that taps the power of sound to connect with people on a visceral, emotional level. Movement and proximity sensors were hidden along strategic points, each one activating a unique sound experience that varies across 4 genre-inspired portals – Nature, Relationships, Thriller, and Suspense. Each soundscape was designed to capture the fullness of life - love, joy, fear, excitement, thrill, adventure – elevating a simple walk in the park to an experience full of meaning and feelings. A once ordinary 45 sq. meter linear corridor is now a colorful walk with interwoven structures that undulate from the ground, rhythmically forming seats, pillars, sunshades, and interactive consoles. A one-of-a-kind park landscaped with color, sound and human emotion.
