In Japan, conservative ways of parenting and what defines a family still prevail. Japan is ranked 120th in terms of “gender gap”. Mothers' self-sacrificing dedication is taken for granted and same-sex marriage is still not allowed. That is why we planned a campaign to update ideas about parenting, and allow people to know there is no one right way. We collected opinions from more than 100 people -- moms, dads, LGBTQ+ and families with disabilities. From this we created messages to showcase variety of values in parenting. We included one message and a diaper in each capsule, and used a "Gacha" to distribute the capsules at child rearing facility in Tokyo. "Gacha" are vending machine that dispenses capsules, popular in Japan but we took this and made it enormous, collecting attention. The campaign successfully touched many people’s heart, providing opportunities to discover new approaches to family life and gave confidence.
The big Gacha machine was installed at the “Neuvola” Child Rearing Facility in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo and remained there for two weeks, from August 6 to 17, 2021. Approximately 400 samples were distributed, and a video of people receiving them was played more than 20,000 times a week. At the same time, we exhibited messages at LGBTQ + support facilities and spread messages on various social media platforms.
