Describing the 2022 Philippines presidential elections as critical is an understatement. The newly-elect has to lead the recovery of a politically divided nation suffering from one of the world’s longest lockdowns and the usual spate of natural calamities. For the Filipino youth, this election will simply define their future. Therefore, the Philippines Commission on Elections (COMELEC) wanted to get as much as people as possible to vote. With such high stakes, COMELEC needed extraordinary help. So, we called on the ghosts of Philippine national heroes, the best people to talk about voter registration. Why? Because they died so Filipinos can vote.
We wanted MagparehistroKa.com (RegisterToVote) to appeal to the young unregistered voters that COMELEC is courting. We came up with quirky ghosts of our national heroes illustrated in animated comics style. Like the ghosts, almost all visual elements on the website experience are digitally illustrated – the backdrops, the background characters, and even the registration requirements. Upon launch, the website became a smash hit for its quirky illustrations of dead Philippine heroes – garnering 3.4 million unique visits, 64% conversion rate, and $400K PR value.
