Background

Since the COVID pandemic started in Bangladesh, BRAC has been on the forefront to help people fight it! Towards the end of November 2020, when the number of covid cases were fluctuating, and people were still learning about the precaution measures against covid, a lot of rumors regarding the precautions were spreading throughout digital media.

Describe the strategy

• COVID only effects urban people • Poor people do not catch COVID • Children are resistant against COVID • There are special sprays which prevents people from COVID People were believing anything and everything spread by peers, family members and word of mouth. It was necessary to provide them with a reliable source of clear and accurate information.

Describe the execution

We drove mass awareness about Social Distancing, Respiratory Hygiene, and Self-Quarantine to limit the spread the COVID -19. More than 30 informational contents were created and promoted throughout social networking sites and Google platform. Most popular public figures of media industry in Bangladesh were introduced to influence people from all socio-economic class so that everyone specially the rural people who have access to correct information have the right tools to fight this pandemic. While sitting at home online, audience participated in our promoted educational online games (Snakes & Ladders and Run Corona Run partnered with HBCC and UKAID by BRAC), completed special online training & certification as project volunteers to ensure precaution against misinformation.

List the results

65% of total audience were reached online through this campaign with a total of 198 million impressions ensured. We started this fight against the COVID pandemic along with BRAC using our holistic communication and media strategy from the very beginning, it is still ongoing to enable everyone with the right information to fight this global pandemic.
