The residents of an apartment complex all have their own diverse dreams. Nobody knows when their thrill, that moment where everything begins, will arrive. No one can tell you to feel it and can’t be predicted with logic. Your heart will tell you. A boy plays in a sandbox, building mountains. A girl who loves drawing draws with chalk. A father passionately takes care of his plants. An older man, surrounded by papers, is enthralled in work on his computer. A mother, obsessed with DIY projects, paints the walls with vibrant colors. Another boy, in love with fantasy, is immersed in his book. A family whose children recently took up swimming watches swimming on tv. A teenage boy obsessed with endangered species sticks photos to a map. A girl who found her thrill gazes at the sky. From afar, we see that this apartment build is brimming with dreams.
The client for this project, Recruit, is dedicated to connecting customers with all manner of service industries, from eateries, beauty salons, and wedding services to education, childcare, and real estate. In 2020, the world was hit with COVID-19, and our daily lives changed drastically. Things that we took for granted ever day became impossible, and we lost important opportunities. That’s why Recruit wanted to support people looking to remain positive and take the next step towards the future. They wanted to help people live a life where they were able to listen to their heart, find what thrills them, and pursue it. The company’s first brand spot in 14 years was created to impart this simple message.
The unassuming windows of the apartment building bely the wealth of dreams contained within. In order to create a visual that soars through these emotions like a gust of wind, we considered an approach based on a model we built in conjunction with test flights and our location scouting and used pre-visualization to make a simulation. In order to avoid lights showing up on camera with a 360-degree approach, we avoided bringing lighting equipment, instead opting to use sunlight at the optimal time of day, allowing us to film in the limited amount of time the children in the movie would be able to remain focused. All of this was coordinated frame by frame. By synchronizing the movement and performances of the actors and the camera work, a series of trial and error with a microdrone resulted in a seamless single cut as the final product.
