The beauty of “Boats” is in its simplicity. The long, cinematic shot allowed us to show just how much sound design detail can be achieved in an edit such as this. From the ambience of morning birds and insects, all the way to the rubber squelch of the tyres as they enter the water. The gravel crunching under wheels and groan of the boat trailer lurching with the movement. The strain of the car engine as the driver perfects the reverse. All of this builds an engaging sound bed for what would normally be quite a subtle moment. The clever use of the existing “Harbour Bells” to create the NRMA sting is the cherry on top.
