Our 30sec film celebrates work that was made here on Australian soil, by Australian creators, behind the Mac, in the first ever Australian expression of our global Behind the Mac platform. It features black and white found images of Australian designers, musicians, writers, actors and film-makers who use Mac as part of their creative process, alongside colourful output they create. Some of the talent are household names, some are up-and-coming stars in their field. The Made In copy used throughout the film calls out exactly where in Australia the work was made. The film is set to a track by local artist Kwame.
Made In Australia. Behind the Mac. To prove Mac is the most powerful device for creative minds, we found evidence (images, footage) of our top creators using Mac and asked them to be in the first ever Australian expression of our global Behind the Mac platform. The campaign featured 25 Australian designers, musicians, writers, actors and film-makers across a national TV spot, digital and social formats and contextually placed OOH around the country, with each media playing a unique role. The location names featured sparked local pride for that community, particularly when creators chose to use the traditional name for their home town or workspace. Our music track lyrics refer to “charging up my opal” which is the transport card for New South Wales, similar to the Oyster card in London or New York Metro.
Selecting the right track for this film was not easy; it needed to be by a local artist, it needed to be made on Mac, and the lyrics not only needed to connect on a local Aussie level but also help drive the narrative of celebrating work made in Australia, by Australians. All in 30 seconds. After searching extensively, we found the perfect track. The film is set to WOW, a track by local artist Kwame, who also features in the film. The lyrics “Now can taking over, going global, I’m a mogul, flying coastal” celebrated the Australian creative community's ability to produce world-class work, while, “To be honest man, I still charge up my opal, Sydney city imma local” brought local pride and connection.
