Travelling at speed, alongside a small and nimble crew, A.J. captured the lives of six LGBTQIA+ people throughout asia pacific. Creating delicate and intimate stories for the community by the community meant creating a safe LGBTQIA+ centric shoot that prioritised the wellbeing of each subject. In pre-production, A.J. worked with each subject to write a piece of prose that told their individual identity journey. Inspired by the everyday life of each person Tammy Williams DOP and AJ designed a visual portrait of the everyday as a backdrop to the narration.
Together, the films celebrate the diversity of LGBTQIA+ experiences within the Asia-Pacific, showcasing the open-hearted, courageous, and intelligent LGBTQIA+ people who live there. Through their films, each of the participants hope to share their stories and experiences in hope of helping others like them to feel seen. The brand advertised has long been a supporter of LGBTQIA+ rights and has worked hard to create products and platforms that allow people to express their views while fostering an open environment where people of different views, backgrounds, and experiences can come together and show up for one another. The work aims to help members of the LGBTQIA+ community to see themselves and stories like theirs so they don’t feel so alone, or so different.
Last year, the director embarked on an 18-month journey that would span six different countries. Created for Google, this seven part series titled ‘Finding Pride’ celebrates the diversity of experiences within the Asia-Pacific, showcasing the open-hearted, high-spirited and intelligent LGBTQIA+ people who live there. Capturing the lives of six individuals throughout the region, each participant's story is an impactful way to help others like them to feel seen. The campaign solidifies Google’s position as a trusted platform that encourages LGBTQIA+ users to express their views and support one another in an open safe environment.
