Write a short summary of what happens in the film.

The piece is like the horsepower history book, filled with contrasts between vintage and modern elements. It tells the story of BMW’S past, present, and future living in the same timeline. All infused with beautiful Chinese culture.

Cultural / Context information for the jury

The film's goal is to create a visual showcase of the BMW brand history with a unique and less advertising-like approach that appeals organically to young Chinese audiences. At the same time, despite its intentional modern collage feel, it also employs deeply interesting historic and cultural storytelling that brings us from the past into the driving future.

Tell the jury about the animation used and summarise any relevant challenges or techniques.

This animated collage-based film is the result of bringing together an incredible team of specialized designers and animators around the director for the intense 6-week production. In total, over 80 unique mixed media shots with diverse styles were created. The tight timeline challenge was overcome with smart production management and fully leveraging the ’24-hour pipeline’, seeing FF liaising with the agency throughout the day in China to gather and process feedback and working overnight in North and South America to execute the design and animation.
