"In answer to the expectations of the athletes and the worldwide audience, the imaginary “Tokyo Olympics ControlCentre” will send out images of all of Tokyo lighting up in anticipation of the Games. Then, in celebration of the athletes embarking on their Olympic journey and the Games getting underway, there will be a joint performance by ICHIKAWA Ebizo, an iconic kabuki actor, and internationally-known pianist UEHARA Hiromi. Kabuki is a form of traditional Japanese theatre, and the intent of Ebizo’s performance is to also ward off evil, while cleansing the stadium of negative energy and acting as a prayer that all disasters and misfortunes in the world will come to an end."
The TOKYO 2020 Olympics were held after a one-year postponement by COVID-19. It was broadcast all over the world as a production video of the opening ceremony.
