For the Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games, Japan devised a set of sport pictograms with the intent of creating a universal design that could be easily understood by anyone. These pictograms became a standard component of every Olympic Games since. For this year’s Games, the pictograms have been updated to become a set of “kinetic sport pictograms”, and in the ceremony, three pantomime performers will act out the 50 pictograms to introduce each of the Olympic sports and events. Their dynamic performance will intensify anticipation for each of the events of the Tokyo 2020 Games.
The TOKYO 2020 Olympics were held after a one-year postponement by COVID-19. It was broadcast all over the world as a production video of the opening ceremony.
