Write a short summary of what happens in the film.

Lone Rider follows a savvy adventurer who roams the tough Australian landscape atop his trusty vehicle, with nothing but his wits and the world’s most durable engine oil by his side.

Cultural / Context information for the jury

There is nothing simple about driving through the remote, dry outback of Australia. The road conditions are dangerous and can change on an almost daily basis. Our film sees the Lone Rider driving across the harsh landscape through differing climates; unpredictable storms, relentless flies, scorching heat and did we mention the flies? You need an unwavering strength to be able to take on those infamous conditions.

Tell the jury about the casting process.

The Lone Rider is not your typical commercial character; he's unpolished but with an enigmatic demeanour that draws you in. Weathered in looks, young at heart, but with a sage and brooding presence, this man has swallowed his fair share of flies and has the raspy voice of someone who’s also inhaled a lot of dust and a lot of Slurpee ice. We chose him for his unfamiliarity and effortless, believable performance. A strong look and voice to match were important, he needed to be able to hold the piece together. He’s timeless in a way, but still wise beyond his years, you’re left unsure whether he’s been driving this vehicle since the dawn of time or just since yesterday.
