When the lockdown was gradually getting lifted and hill stations started welcoming tourists, OYO sprung to action with the 'Chal Pahad' campaign. Messaging apps were our primary mode of communication throughout the lockdown so we decided to base our film around this idea. The entire film was crafted like a group conversation to make it relatable with lots of memes and fun copy. Thus the 'Chal Pahad' anthem was instrumental in pulling tourists back to the hills with 'a hundred reasons why' approach. Telling them why a trip to the hills is the best solution for every situation ever.
Chal pahad! or, ‘let’s go to the mountains’ is a common phrase among North Indians because the nearest hilly destination is only a few hours away from metro cities ‘Chal Pahad’ was released right after the lockdown restrictions across hilly towns were lifted after a travel ban of nearly 8-months. The peak holiday season (summer months) had already gone by and the prospect of tourism bouncing back anytime soon seemed bleak. We created an anthem that invokes nostalgia. Like a chat group with all the members of your squad which is usually where all the planning started. The lyrics and visuals reminded people of all the reasons/lack of, which led to planning impromptu trips to the hills. With all the fun GIFs, emojis and catchy lyrics we tried to normalise travelling to the hills like the old times while people were still wary due to the pandemic.
The track was inspired by bonfire sound and music. The impromptu acoustic performances to random lyrics which the group comes up with by weaving words and rhymes together. The catchy reverb of ‘Chal Pahad’ is accompanied by occasional claps, guitar, banjo and tambourine. Instruments that people carry along to jam around the campfire.
