Write a short summary of what happens in the film

The film opens on what seems like a normal day during the pandemic with a woman coming back home from a grocery run. We see her getting visibly agitated as she is putting away the things she has bought and while we can’t see her face because of her stole worn as a mask, we see the agitation in her eyes and they fill with despair as the news reporter reports an extension in lockdown. She starts unwrapping the stole around her face as the broadcast drones on and to our horror we see a bruised and battered visage, the reporter’s voice becoming audible to deliver the irony that ends the telecast on “Stay home, stay safe”. Suddenly we hear a loud shatter to indicate the presence of the abuser as the woman turns her head towards the noise, a lone and hapless tear rolling down her bruised face.

Please tell us about the social behaviour that inspired the work

During the onset of the pandemic, and the ensuing lockdown, while people were urged to stay at home, with all channels, celebrities and messages urging them to “Stay home, stay safe”, we had the challenge of throwing light on how unsafe home was for a select few with instances of Domestic Abuse rising drastically and it being called the shadow pandemic by UN Women. The situation called for a safe way to aid these struggling women, which is why we launched a Whatsapp Helpline, which let woman who couldn’t leave home, reach out for help while people were being socially distant and called attention to this awful pandemic hiding in the shadows. This was an unexpected side-effect of the lockdown that had not come to light, calling attention to a segment of people for whom home was not a safe place since they were trapped with their abusers,unable to escape.
