A walk down the history of buyer behaviour in post-independence India, this film is a light-hearted nudge to all fellow Indians to pause that one all-pervasive habit that we just refuse to change - bargaining hard till the last Rupee! While generations change, our preferences change, technology changes, but the one thing that stays the same is the irrepressible Indian urge to bargain. The film highlights the doldrums that the pandemic threw our small businesses in, and finally urges people to pause the bargaining habit so our small businesses can get back on their feet.
Indian small businesses suffered heavily during the first 18 months of the Corona virus pandemic. Business was down by over 60% on an average. We took the most popular Indian catchphrase used for bargaining, “Chaar rupaiya kum karo na, pleej” (Reduce it by 4 rupees please) and turned it into a song that urged people to put a pause on the deeply engrained habit of bargaining. We tied up with one of the most popular Bollywood singers of India, Ragubhir Yadav, who voiced this fun song for an otherwise serious issue. This film was shown on screens in busy market places during the Diwali shopping period, which is the Indian equivalent of the Christmas shopping period.
