Dawn is breaking. A lone cyclist dressed in a patriotic red top, prepares to go on a ride. A accompanying voiceover narrates the metaphorical ride, beginning with "Life is just like riding a bike." The lone cyclist traverses different terrains, inclines, and even gets a puncture - all of which are metaphorical references to things in life we need to deal with, including the loneliness of a pandemic. The narrator reminds us, "Just when you feel like you're losing momentum, remember how far you've come," while the lone cyclist looks pensively at the majestic city skyline, which is revealed by a swooping aerial shot. The lone cyclist arrives at a bank, pauses, and pedals out of frame, just as the voiceover brings us full-circle, reminding us that "Life is just like riding a bike, and if we just keep pedalling, we'll emerge stronger. Together."
Just like the rest of the world, Singaporeans have had to go through much hardship and adjustments as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. OCBC Bank organises the largest annual mass cycling event in Singapore, and the event has gone fully virtual in 2020 and 2021 due to safe-distancing restrictions. This video was meant to inspire and celebrate what we have gone through as a nation, not just to overcome the difficulties brought about by the pandemic, but also the many other challenges we have overcome in 50+ years of nation-building. This was done through a series of metaphors based on cycling, and featured popular landmarks in Singapore frequented by cyclists.
