Why is this work relevant for Entertainment?

The Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics were held without spectators in the Corona crisis. Without the support of the spectators, the athletes would not be able to perform at their best. Therefore, we focused on the various types of cheering calls of countries and regions around the world. By combining these with the power of digital technology, we came up with "Tele Cheering”. NHK, as a public broadcaster, delivered the cheers from all over the world through monitors in stadiums to encourage the competing athletes.

Background

The Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics were held without spectators in the Corona crisis. Without the support of the spectators, the athletes would not be able to perform at their best. Some of the athletes even withdrew from the games due to the lack of spectators. NHK, as a public broadcaster, attempted to deliver encouragement from around the world to the competing athletes at the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, which were held without spectators.

In addition to cheering for their own country, videos of cheering for other countries and regions also spread. In the Olympics and Paralympics, which were held while the world fought together against Corona, a style of cheering was born in which people not only competed, but also cheered and praised each other's countries and regions.
