A giant QR code decoration that is mainly consisted of an image of Yoshitomo Tsutsugo, the star slugger of Yokohama DeNA Baystars, a baseball team based in Yokohama City, Kanagawa. By reading the QR code with a smartphone, etc., the website for the 70th anniversary of the baseball club can be accessed, and original videos of the baseball club can be seen.
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and Yokohama City lead a community renovation plan “Sports Town Plan”. As a part of this plan, we displayed a giant decoration extensively using a wall of a large commercial facility (Yokohama VIVRE) near the stadium. We created news hooks by displaying a decorated QR code using an image of a star slugger at the facility visited by many people, irrespective of their age or gender. This QR decoration has a high synergistic effect with smartphones and SNS and can induce people not only to “see” but also “shoot” and “spread” the decoration. By emphasizing the history of Yokohama City and baseball on the linked website of the baseball club, we aimed to make the Sports Town Plan visible to everyone and strengthen the connection between the town of Yokohama and Yokohama DeNA Baystars.
