The Aura Incense Barricade is an idea that helps to keep humans and elephants separate in areas afflicted with the human-elephant conflict. Villagers pray everyday in the morning and in the evening as a ritual. They light incense sticks during prayers as a custom. It’s also a scientifically proven fact that elephants are mammals with a highly developed sense of smell. Combining these two factors we designed a product, the Aura ‘Aliya’ Incense Stick (‘Aliya’ means Elephant), which when lit releases a fragrance that repels elephants. The stick combines five, elephant repelling, non-toxic, natural ingredients of ginger, lemon grass, citronella, palma rosa and patchouli for this purpose. This 12 inch incense stick, with a 15.7mm circumference burns for an extended time of 51/2 hours while emitting its fragrance parallel to the ground to a minimum radius of 20 meters. Elephants sense this from afar and avoid the area.
Sri Lanka is a devout nation, and as such villagers residing in areas riddled with the human elephant-conflict pray everyday, as a ritual, in the early morning and in the evening hoping for a peaceful existence. It is customary for villagers to light incense sticks every time they pray. It’s also scientifically proven that elephants are mammals with a highly developed sense of smell. The Aura Aliya Incense Stick been able to turn the ordinary incense stick into a powerful elephant repellent by creating an invisible barricade between humans and elephants.
